August Long Weekend: A Tourism Boom Fueled by Sun – Vacancies Are Rapidly Disappearing
Poles have taken to the roads for the August long weekend. Sunny weather combined with a calendar favorable for extended rest has created a record-breaking start to the second half of August for the tourism industry. In popular tourist destinations, available accommodations are already scarce.
“In July, tourist traffic was primarily focused on city breaks,” says Paulina Szadkowska, Revenue Management Director at Renters.pl. “Travelers were drawn to larger cities offering a rich program of festivals, artistic, and cultural events. The weather was not conducive to vacation trips in scenic landscapes, which translated into slightly lower occupancy in popular resorts. However, August brought improved weather conditions, and with it, a clear return of tourists to seaside and mountain towns.”
Weather in Poland is a Key Factor – Many Tourists Book at the Last Minute
Poles often delayed their decision to travel until the very last moment. A large portion of August long weekend reservations appeared only in the first days of the month, once weather forecasts improved. The most popular stays are 3, 4, and 5 days long—encouraged by the calendar layout, as August 15th falls on a Friday, creating the perfect opportunity for a short vacation. However, there is no shortage of longer bookings either, as for many tourists, this weekend has become the start of a full-scale summer holiday.
Seaside and Mountain Resorts Are Almost Entirely Booked. High Prices Do Not Deter – Occupancy Remains Near 100%
According to Renters.pl data, which covers tens of thousands of reservations, this year’s hits include Międzyzdroje, Sopot, Mielno, and Zakopane. In these locations, there are virtually no vacant apartments left. Tourists eager for summer relaxation in Polish resorts are enthusiastically using our offer, and we are observing a dynamic drop in availability in popular destinations. The highest interest is seen at the Polish seaside and in the mountains, though the trend for short trips to major Polish cities—particularly Warsaw, Kraków, and Wrocław—remains strong.
- Top 5 destinations with the highest occupancy: Międzyzdroje, Świnoujście, Sopot, Karpacz, Zakopane.
- The lowest accommodation prices can currently be found in cities like Łódź and Rzeszów. In Łódź, prices start as low as approximately 200 PLN per night, and in Rzeszów for 250 PLN per night.
- The highest average accommodation prices were recorded in Łeba, Sopot, and Międzyzdroje—where nightly rates can exceed 1000 PLN in the most popular locations and for the highest standard. It is worth noting that price is influenced by many factors, including the size of the apartment, proximity to the sea, equipment level, and finish standard, allowing everyone to find an offer suited to their needs and budget.
- Particular interest is shown in apartments offering additional amenities such as a swimming pool, spa area, or air conditioning. During the summer heat, these types of properties are booked first, confirming the growing importance of comfort and equipment standards in tourist decisions.
“Although the long weekend lasts until Sunday, August 17th, we expect high tourist traffic in the following days as well,” says Paulina Szadkowska. “This year, we observe that after the August long weekend, occupancy drops only slightly, and some locations may maintain up to 70%. This is a great opportunity for tourists—at the end of the month, accommodation prices will be exceptionally attractive, and the range of apartments remains rich and diverse. Lower occupancy also means a greater choice of locations, including popular seaside and mountain directions,” Szadkowska adds.
Fierce Competition for Tourists Between Hotels, Condo-hotels, and Short-term Rentals
While short-term rentals often compete with hotels and condo-hotels, Renters has developed a model that allows it to compete in quality and comfort with the best hotels. Its portfolio already includes over 20 modern apartment complexes across Poland that combine the advantages of luxury hotels with the independence and freedom of a private home. These include apartments in Deo Plaza in Gdańsk, apartments on Bukowa 17 in Wisła, apartments in the Bel Mare complex in Międzyzdroje, or Waterlane apartments in Gdańsk with access to an indoor pool.
“Our apartments in residential complexes are a proposition for people who, instead of hotel routine, prefer to feel like they are in their second home. Guests value the ability to prepare breakfast in a fully equipped kitchen, drink coffee on a glazed terrace with a panoramic view, and use amenities such as a jacuzzi, gym, pool, or direct beach access, without the crowds and formal atmosphere of a hotel,” says Paulina Szadkowska. “Our apartments are modernly furnished, refined in every detail, and their locations allow guests to enjoy both a prestigious environment and proximity to local attractions starting right at their doorstep. It is the ideal choice for those who want to combine comfort, privacy, and authentic experiences. This summer, apartment complexes once again proved to be a hit. Since the beginning of the season, they have enjoyed high occupancy and perfectly meet guest expectations.”
